Project 52 – Week 7

A normal Saturday morning. After a rushed week, you love to climb into our bed on Saturday mornings and cuddle with your baby sister. I am so very glad that I captured this moment. I will love this picture forever.SaturdayMorning03WEB

Project 52 – Week 6

Theme: “Light”126BWweb

I was pretty excited to go out and find a cool way to incorporate the “light” theme into my picture for the week. We went to the beach…didn’t find my inspiration there. Went to the park at a gorgeous time of day….nope. My daughter picked flowers in a field with the sun setting behind her…still not a shot I loved in the bunch. Then we went on a family walk and came across this tunnel. I immediately knew how I wanted to set up this shot. I wanted them to be heading into the light together, off to have an adventure. It just so happened that my 5 year old brought along a kiddie camera and that just adds to the shot for me. He’s going to capture their grand adventures! I wanted them to be looking into the tunnel, but when they looked at each other, I took the shot and ended up loving it more than what I had planned.

This may be cheesy, (I’m pretty sure we’ve established that I’m cheesy) but I look at it and think about how glad I am that these boys are so close in age (18 months apart). I’m so glad that they’ll be facing life together. I hope that, as it looks to me in the picture, they’ll often look at each other as the best buds they are and say, “Ready? Let’s do this.”

Project 52 – Week 5

This week’s theme is “Color”.Edit130webMy current color is pink. And purple. I had two boys first and spent 4 and a half years being a mom to just boys. Trains, trucks, cars, blue, blue, and more blue. Then my daughter came along and some pink was introduced into our world. But she was so content to play with her brothers’ things, so we didn’t worry about getting girly, frilly stuff for a long time. And THEN, her baby sister arrived 6 months ago. We acquired more pink and more purple and embraced the flowers and baby dolls. (Still haven’t embraced the princess crowns but I’m sure we’ll get there.) Now that my two boys are in school for several hours a day, I am fully in girl world at home, with my two sweets. My older daughter likes for me to do her hair. My youngest likes to cuddle. We watch Tangled at least weekly. We dance along with Dora on the Wii. We make up songs and sing them in fake opera voices.  I. am. loving. it.

A Christmas Present {Lifestyle Newborn Photographer – Brevard}

Photographing this sweet baby girl, a first born who arrived just in time for Christmas, brought me back to what it was like when my first was born. The first night home from the hospital I didn’t want my mom to leave. I thought, “What are we going to do without a magic button that brings a nurse to our room? What if I do something wrong??” My mom, full of good intentions, decided to tell me a lovely story. She said, “Don’t be so worried! Babies are very resilient! They’re not as breakable as you think. I heard a story about a woman who dumped her newborn baby in a river in a garbage bag. The baby was able to breathe through a hole and was crying and crying and someone heard it and rescued it and it survived!” I. started. bawling. “WHY WOULD YOU TELL A BRAND NEW HORMONAL MOTHER SUCH A HORRIBLE STORY???”

Hopefully no one has told this new mom anything like that. She’s doing great in this new role and makes motherhood look drop dead gorgeous. With a nurse for a mom and a cop for a dad, I’m positive that this baby girl is in great hands.

Project 52 – Week 4

This week’s theme is “Your Daily Routine”. P52Week6webOn the weekends, my boys wake up early and go straight into the toy room to play with their legos or angry bird toys. They close the doors and try to play quietly so they don’t wake anyone else up. But after a little while, their two year old sister hears them and goes marching in. On this morning, I caught my son looking up at her like, “Aw man, she’s awake.” They know that once she arrives, their lego creations will be destroyed at the hand of this tiny terrorist.

And yes, those are kid hand smudges on the glass panels. Why? Do you want to come over and clean them? I mean, if it’s really bothering you that much…

Project 52 – Week 3

This week’s theme was “Pieces of Me”. I thought long and hard….and then waited until the last minute to take a picture for the week. I was heading to bed and saw my husband in his usual spot, on our bed, watching an uplifting video. At the end of a long day, he likes to unwind by getting his spirituality on. 😉 I wish this photo could better capture this amazing man’s heart. I decided he was the perfect subject for the theme “Pieces of Me” because he is the biggest piece of my heart. He gave me 4 other giant pieces of my heart: our 4 kids. And he knows and loves all the pieces that make me me. Well….maybe not all of them…maybe he doesn’t love that I love Downton Abbey. And maybe he doesn’t love that I hate to iron. But he loves MOST of me! 😉 And he understands me oh so well. When we’re driving around town and he catches me just staring out the window, he says, “Yes, you’re right, the light is amazing in that spot.” Totally teasing me, but still…he gets me and my obsession with all things photography related. So when I asked if he could just stay still for a minute so I could take his picture, he got it.

I love this man.
